Art Deco is a style with roots in pre-WW1 France and influenced every facet of design, from cars to buildings, furniture to movie theaters, trains, and even vacuum cleaners. The style was a mixture of many different movements that were joined by the will to be modern, and it took cubism’s bold geometric forms, ancién regime craftsmanship and the exotic styles of Chinese, Japanese, Persian and Egyptian cultures. A symbol of the exuberance of an era, after the great depression Art Deco was deeply toned down.

Employing new materials, Art Deco soon mutated into furniture, where it represented scientific progress although most of the influences came from an updated take on ancient culture.
